I desire to be the kind of person who people describe as a grown up. More specifically, I desire to be the kind of person people describe as a Grown Up Christian.
A Grown Up Christian is someone who takes God seriously but themselves less seriously.
A Grown Up Christian is someone who reads scripture in order to hear from God not to use as a weapon.
A Grown Up Christian is someone who fears God not because he is angry and a boiling tempest but because in comparison I am like an ant to an elephant.
A Grown Up Christian is someone who can listen to their enemy because they have already prayed for them.
A Grown Up Christian is someone who knows they don’t have all of the answers because if they did they would have no need for Christ.
A Grown Up Christian is someone who can be kind to everyone they meet, even the ones who mistreat them.
A Grown Up Christian is someone who believes that God is who he says he is. They have no need to be God themselves.
A Grown Up Christian is someone who works on Growing Up like an athlete trains for their next competition.
A Grown Up Christian is someone who doesn’t lie even if the consequences are costly.
A Grown Up Christian is someone who refuses to point fingers because they, themselves, still have a lot of personal Growing Up to do.
A Grown Up Christian is someone who is loving because they were first loved by Christ and can now love others through Christ.
A Grown Up Christian is someone who can forgive because mercy is stronger than revenge and bitterness.
A Grown Up Christian is someone who is an instrument of peace not an instigator of violence.
A Grown Up Christian is someone who spends time with Christ because he holds the words of eternal life.
I am not a fully Grown Up Christian and I don’t pretend to be the perfect example of these things but this is my vision for the Grown Up life. If you want to be a Grown Up too then join me every week where I will post about my experiences and lessons I have learned. We will work together to be in a position to let Christ’s transforming power make us more holy and more like he desires us to be. There is too much at stake for us not to Grow Up. Won’t you join me?
